Commissioning a painting is a way of acquiring a piece of art which you really are a part of. It can be quite daunting if you have never done so before, but Jim Dawson views input as an enjoyable collaborative process between client and artist. You may wish to let the artist have a free rein and you just select a subject, while others prefer a rough idea and to be kept informed at different stages.
A commission normally starts with an e-mail from you. We then discuss the subject matter, background, size and approximate cost. We agree on the rough layout and time scale, although this can vary slightly depending on subject matter, scale and detail.
The copyright stays with the artist. The painting may be reproduced by the artist as a print, etc.
